The initiatives that RSUS is working on are those initiatives that are geared toward tackling key issues and combating negative trends facing at-risk youth within our community. The three core initiatives that RSUS is currently working on are:
Break the Addiction - Alcohol/Drug awareness and prevention campaigns geared to providing education and support services for those youth who are at-risk of getting involved or who are already involved in alcohol/drug abuse. This project provides seminars and workshops detailing the factors that cause youth to get start drugs, the methods to prevent drug use, the role of the parents and information on how to get help once addicted. Parent Campaign - Greater parental involvement in the decisions kids make about drugs is critical to preventing and reducing alcohol & drug abuse. Research has shown that kids are half as likely to use drugs when learning about the risks of drugs from their parents as those who don't. However, only about 3 out of 10 kids report learning about drugs from their parents. Our Parent Seminar is designed to inspire parents to connect with their kids in ways that persuade them to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The key to the seminars is providing information on how parents can strengthen their relationship with their children, open the lines of communication between parents and kids, and creating a bond based on mutual respect and love for one another.
Youth Campaign - The Youth Seminars are geared to getting youth to think in a focused way about drugs and alcohol, and invites them to consider the risks of substance abuse. The seminars raises questions to the youth about their lifestyle, how the interact with other teens, how to avoid those reasons that lead to substance abuse and asks them to consider how they might act in situations involving drugs and alcohol.
